Overview

Chip Reed is a zoning and land use attorney who represents commercial, industrial, and residential developers and landowners in securing and protecting land use rights in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties and surrounding jurisdictions. He is known for his teamwork approach and for bringing out the best in development team members, including architects, engineers, planners, and all professionals involved.

Clients like Elm Street Development, Marvin R. Blumberg Company, Monument Realty, Clark Enterprises, Corporation of the Roman Catholic Clergymen, Donatelli Development, Trammell Crow, Douglas Development, Broad Street, and Catholic Charities of Washington, among others, benefit from his extensive knowledge of the master planning, zoning, subdivision, site plan, and special exception processes in the Maryland suburbs.  Chip’s representation of major corporations, residential builders, retailers, developers, and landowners includes matters involving environmental issues, adequate public facilities restrictions, public infrastructure financing, mixed-use Metro development, traffic management, urban design, affordable housing, real estate taxation, and historic preservation. He has represented clients in legislative initiatives at both local and state levels, as well as in appellate court proceedings. His hallmark is practicing with honesty and integrity in collaboration with clients, government staff and officials, and community stakeholders, and delivering what is promised.

Chip is a life board member of the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce, and formerly served as Board Chair after serving on the Economic Development and Legislative Committees. He also was appointed to the Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission’s Prince George’s County Development Quality Steering Committee. He is active in the Prince George’s County Liaison Committee of the Maryland Building Industry Association.

Chip supports several non-profit organizations, including Catholic Charities, Washington Jesuit Academy, and The Washington Ballet. He is an eager traveler, who counts Kapalua in Maui, the Vatican, and Albertville in the French Alps during the Winter Olympics among his favorite trips.

Landmark Properties

Bowie Crossing and Brandywine Crossing

Served as lead counsel for two large retail projects developed by Faison in the City of Bowie and in southern Prince George’s County. Obtained City Council, Planning Board, and County Council approvals necessary to rezone land from office and industrial zoning classifications to permit much-needed retail development totaling more than 1 million SF.

Hyde Field

Served as lead counsel for a mixed-use community containing 1,550 homes and 80,000 SF of retail development. The site includes redevelopment of the Hyde Field airfield with needed residential development to serve the burgeoning growth in southern Prince George’s County.

BeechTree

Served as land use counsel for mixed-use golf community including 1,200 acres and the Lake Presidential Golf Course developed by Landmark Golf.
