Lerch Early employment attorneys Marc Engel, Jim Hammerschmidt, Michael Neary, Julie Reddig, and Jessie Summers took part in the Montgomery County Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management’s (SHRM) half-day Employment Law Update on May 17.

Hammerschmidt and Neary started the morning off with a DMV Legislative Update covering new laws and other important ones for last year that employers need to keep on the radar. Summers and Neary then followed up with a Case Law Update covering relevant new cases from 4th Circuit and local courts.

Finally, Hammerschmidt moderated a panel with Engel, Reddig, and Summers covering hot topics in employment law, including the impact of the legalization of marijuana on employers, NLRB actions and decisions impacting the workplace, confidentiality and non-disparagement provisions in severance agreements, managing employees in a hybrid work environment, pay transparency, and more.

The Montgomery County (MD) Society for Human Resource Management (MCSHRM) exists to serve our chapter members and SHRM members while advancing the HR profession through education, advocacy, leadership, and community outreach.
