Relocation after divorce

Rise to every challenge

protecting what's most important to you

When one parent elects to relocate, either for personal or professional reasons, the growing distance between homes may make shared custodial arrangements impossible to cultivate or maintain.

Often, distance results in one parent having to assume primary care of the children during the weeks and most weekends, with the “away” parent receiving less frequent blocks of access because regular weekly contact is impractical for the child or children. This may create an “all-or-nothing” mentality on both sides, which can make resolution of such disputes very difficult.

Whether you want to move out of the area for a new job opportunity or marriage, or your ex wants to relocate closer to family, divorced people with minor children have a variety of issues to consider when one of the parent’s wishes to move.

For more about relocation issues see “Divorced and Moving? Steps to Take When Moving with a Minor Child” and contact a Lerch Early attorney.
