Overview
Mel Myers helps businesses, developers, investors, and property owners navigate the tax aspects of complex transactions. He advises clients on transaction structuring, real estate acquisitions and dispositions, opportunity zone investments,tax credits, tax-exempt bond financing, executive compensation, and other federal and state tax matters in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
Mel works closely with clients to identify tax considerations early, helping them structure transactions that support business objectives while minimizing unnecessary tax exposure. He brings a distinctive perspective shaped by experiencein private practice, a Big Four accounting firm, government service, in-house commercial real estate, and corporate counsel roles.
Mel has advised clients ranging from privately held businesses and real estate developers to investment funds, multinational corporations, and partnerships. His work includes counseling opportunity zone funds, advising on Section 1031 and1033 exchanges, supporting domestic and cross-border transactions, and helping clients address tax issues arising from significant real estate and business investments.
Before focusing his practice on tax law, Mel served as Assistant General Counsel at the U.S. General Services Administration, where he handled contract claims and bid protests involving major federal projects. He also worked in commercialreal estate development and has remained active in organizations focused on urban planning and community service.
Outside the office, Mel enjoys tennis, hiking, biking, reading, and spending time at the beach.
