Overview
Balkis Awan is a family law attorney who represents clients in Maryland and Washington, D.C., with a focus on custody and protective order cases.
Naturally curious about people and their stories, Balkis approaches each case with the understanding that clients are often sharing deeply personal and difficult experiences. Her goal is to help clients feel informed and empowered as they navigate the legal process, whether they are advocating for their children, seeking safety, or establishing important boundaries for the future.
A colleague once observed that clients felt safe with Balkis, noting how they spoke about her and requested to work with her specifically. That trust reflects the kind of advocate she hopes to be: calm, principled, and genuinely invested in helping clients see a path forward with confidence.
Balkis began her family law career in Pennsylvania and is coming full circle, returning to the DC Metro Area, where she earned both her undergrad and law degrees.
Outside of work, she enjoys antiquing, reading female-authored fiction, keeping up with fashion news and trends, and spending time with her cat, Puma.
