Michael D. Smith

Michael Smith, an attorney with Lerch, Early & Brewer, is with the firm’s Commercial Lending, Creditors’ Rights & Workouts and Real Estate groups. His practice is primarily focused on the structuring, negotiation, documentation, due diligence and closing of commercial lending transactions. He also works with lenders and borrowers in financial transactions involving community associations, construction projects and government contracting.

Michael’s clients include large national financial institutions as well as local community banks. He has also represented borrowers in a variety of commercial loan transactions.

Clients appreciate Michael’s diligent, pragmatic approach and credit him for helping them close complex transactions and commercial financing deals.

Michael is admitted to practice in Maryland and is a member of the Maryland and Montgomery County Bar Associations. He volunteers with the Montgomery County Pro Bono clinic and is an active participant in the annual Montgomery County Bar Foundation Golf and Tennis Charity Classic, an event to benefit the pro bono program.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science from American University. He received Juris Doctor  from American University’s Washington College of Law.

He has presented seminars on the negotiation of commercial loan documents.

A California native, Michael enjoys traveling to foreign countries with his wife and two children and running.
