In December, we took an in-depth look at Montgomery County’s plans for driving the economy. We’re thrilled to present part 2 inviting Prince George’s officials into this important conversation.
Montgomery and Prince George’s counties may be two separate entities but for each county to reach its full economic potential, increased collaboration between the two jurisdictions will be important. An obvious connection is the now-under-construction Purple Line, which will connect Bethesda and Silver Spring with College Park and New Carrollton. What more can Prince George’s and Montgomery counties do on a regional level to collectively attract the next big Amazon type deal?
Our panel of County officials, economic development professionals and developers from both counties will address this question and drill down into the current economic development efforts of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties and address several hot topics along the way:
- How important is having a regional view when it comes to the economy?
- What advantages (strategic and otherwise) are gained through a regional approach?
- Where are the opportunities for collaboration after Amazon’s decision and with the Purple Line taking physical shape?
- What other types of businesses does each jurisdiction have their eye on?

Andree is the first African-American Planning Director for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Prince George’s County. She previously served as the County Attorney, Associate General Counsel for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and as an associate with the law firm of Meyers, Rodbell and Rosenbaum. Andree is a member of the State Board of Law Examiners’ Character Committee for the Seventh Judicial Circuit of the State of Maryland, a board member of the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center Foundation, and a member of Leadership Greater Washington.

Adam directs the Urban Real Estate Advisory Group at RCLCO, which is distinguished by: sophistication in forecasting housing, retail/commercial and hospitality demand in revitalizing cities and development corridors; in understanding the unique set of circumstances that create vibrant mixed-use environments; and in the financing mechanisms and public/private partnerships that are relied upon to achieve them. He also has a specialized expertise in understanding the interrelation and unique marketing and operating synergies of residential, hospitality, and retail/attraction environment, in small scale urban locations.

Dannielle (D-District 3) was elected to her first four-year term on the Prince George’s County Council in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018. She represents the municipalities of Landover Hills, Riverdale Park, University Park, New Carrollton, Berwyn Heights and portions of College Park, including all of the UMD College Park campus, among many others. Dannielle served as Council chair for the 2018 Legislative Year. In 2018, she also served as the Chair for the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government’s Region Forward Coalition, and she was the Council’s representative on the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board.

Hans, first elected to the County Council in 2010, represents one million Montgomery County residents as an At-Large Member. Before serving on the County Council, Hans served as National Youth Vote Director for the Obama for America campaign in 2007, and previously as political director for Rock the Vote, where he helped register nearly a million voters. Hans also served as a senior advisor at AARP. He serves as the Council’s Lead for Digital Government, and he serves on the Government Operations & Fiscal Policy Committee.

Gwen oversees a wide range of projects that aim to improve the quality of life in Montgomery County. She also worked for the Montgomery County Planning Department from 1987 to 2008. During this period, she served as the Chief of Countywide Planning, including supervising the Environmental Planning, Transportation Planning, and Historic Preservation Sections, as well as serving as Acting Planning Director. Prior to her appointment as the Montgomery County Planning Director in 2013, Gwen was chief of the Development Division for the City of Alexandria Department of Planning and Zoning for five years.

Patrick is a land use and zoning attorney who works with real estate developers and property owners to secure approvals throughout Montgomery County. Patrick helps shepherd projects through the planning process, including preparing, filing, and seeking approval for site plans, rezonings, special exceptions, and variances. He also advocates for property owners whose land has been condemned by the government under eminent domain in order to obtain just compensation for their property, and he is currently working with many clients impacted by the Purple Line project.
