Lerch Early is pleased to welcome attorney Makia Weaver as an associate in the Family Law practice.

“Makia brings a great mix of experience helping clients in both Maryland and DC,” said Erik Arena, chair of the Family Law practice. “We’re thrilled to have her on board and look forward to her becoming an important part of the team serving our clients and the firm.”

Makia received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Virginia and her Juris Doctor from American University, Washington College of Law (WCL). She is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

In her professional career, Makia has received several honors. In 2018, she received the Client-Centered Award for her work as a public defender. In 2016, she served as Master of Ceremony for the Children’s Law Center’s Annual Benefit. In addition, in 2016, Makia was the recipient of the Professor Taslitz Criminal Justice Award and the Rising Star Award at WCL.

A Washington D.C. native, Makia prioritizes mentorship and community service in her leisure time. She currently mentors high school students through Judge Robert R. Rigsby’s Law Camp Mentoring Program at the District of Columbia Superior Court.
