Lerch, Early & Brewer is a growing Bethesda law firm. We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our dynamic accounting team. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for the general ledger, trust accounting, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, bank/balance sheet account reconciliations, and payroll/401(k) processing.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accurate and consistent application of policies, procedures and acceptable accounting standards.
  • Process the monthly general ledger close by extracting general ledger information; compile financial performance data; and prepare monthly bank account reconciliations.
  • Reconciles source documentation to the general ledger to provide an accurate accounting of the company financial position. This includes making appropriate end of month entries to properly recognize the Firm’s financial position.
  • Maintain the fixed asset subsidiary system and properly record depreciation transactions.
  • Oversee client trust accounts.
  • Process full cycle payroll for 70+ employees on a bi-weekly basis using Paylocity. Enter all payroll adjustments, including setting up and maintaining garnishments. Complete journal entries for payroll and related payables by creating and downloading payroll reports and creating and updating excel spreadsheets. Work with Human Resources on employee setups and terminations.
  • Process Fidelity 401(k) payments on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Assist the preparation of annual budgets
  • Compile work papers for annual Financial Statement review and tax returns.
  • Assist Controller with various ad-hoc accounting projects and supports other Accounting Department staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field required
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proven Excel skills and exposure to automated accounting systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
