Erik Arena and Heather Collier Join Lerch Early's Family Law Practice

Lerch, Early & Brewer is pleased to announce that Erik P. Arena and Heather S. Collier have joined the firm’s divorce/family law practice as principals. Erik and Heather are experienced in property division, alimony, custody, and child support matters in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

“We’re thrilled to add attorneys of Heather and Erik’s caliber,” says Erin L. Kopelman, co-chair of the firm’s divorce/family law practice. “They immediately enhance our practice with their depth and breadth of experience.”

Erik is particularly experienced in representing high net worth people in property and alimony disputes, including those involving “chasing dollars” – finding money that’s been moved, uncovering concealed assets, or analyzing records and building models to accurately identify income from all sources. Erik is drawn to the hard cases, those nobody else wants or that are long-shot challenges. These often include spousal support, asset distribution, child support, or high-conflict custody and visitation disputes.

Heather regularly handles high conflict custody cases, which often include custody and psychological evaluations, as well as issues related to blended families and children with special needs. On the financial side, Heather’s experience includes valuation of many different types of businesses and professional practices and other out of the ordinary assets, reconstructing income, complex family support arrangements, and complex divorce-related tax issues. Heather is also called on frequently by the court to represent children in contested custody cases and adoptions.

“Heather and Erik not only exhibit the highest quality of practice and client representation, they are also both fantastic people outside of the courtroom,” says Chris Roberts, co-chair of the divorce/family law practice. “We’re excited for our current and future clients to experience working with them firsthand.”

Super Lawyers lists Heather as one of the Top 100 lawyers and one of the Top 50 women attorneys in Maryland and DC. Bethesda Magazine calls Erik one of the “Top 10 Family Law Attorneys Under 40.” They have both been recognized as “Bar Leaders” by the Montgomery County Bar Foundation for their years of serving in numerous leadership positions.
