Success Story: Technology Joint Venture Trial with MedStar-Georgetown Medical Center
Two of the firm’s litigation principals, Stan Reed and Brad McCullough, were part of a trial team that successfully represented MedStar-Georgetown Medical Center (also known as Georgetown University Hospital or “GUH”) in a very complex trial in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland. A company claimed to be a joint venture partner with GUH with respect to GUH’s use of CyberKnife technology to treat cancer patients, and also claimed that GUH had breached the parties’ contract. The company sought remedies against GUH amounting to more than $10 million. After a two-week trial, the Court ruled in GUH’s favor, finding that no joint venture
partnership existed and that GUH had complied with its contractual duties.
