Jeffrey Van Grack

Jeffrey Van Grack is a community association attorney at Lerch, Early & Brewer in Bethesda, Maryland.  He founded and co-chairs the firm's practice devoted exclusively to representing community and homeowners associations, condominiums and co-operatives. He also provides robust defense to HOA board members, property managers and insurance companies in litigation and appellate work.

For more than 30 years, Jeff has consistently delivered a deep-rooted commitment to integrity and a thorough understanding of HOA issues. He is known throughout the Washington metropolitan area for his knowledge and experience in handling complex, often contentious, community association issues. In addition to being an assertive litigator when needed, Jeff’s affable nature helps clients resolve disputes outside the courtroom. He successfully completed the Montgomery County Bar Foundation’s 40-hour mediation training program and has been appointed to serve as a mediator by the Circuit Court of Montgomery County.

Admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, Jeff is thoroughly familiar with the evolution of HOAs in the area. In 1988, he was appointed by the Montgomery County Council to study community associations. He served on the Montgomery County task force on community associations and chaired its dispute resolution committee.

Jeff is a past president of the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) and is active in CAI on both a local and national level. He is one of approximately 100 lawyers nationwide inducted into the prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL), and currently serves as its president. Jeff speaks regularly on community association issues and has lectured on numerous topics throughout the country. He also serves as an expert witness in community association cases throughout the Washington metropolitan area.

Born in Washington, D.C., Jeff has called Montgomery County home since 1956. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland and his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law. After graduation, he served as a law clerk to Judge Richard B. Latham, 6th Judicial Circuit of Maryland.

Jeff devotes hundreds of hours each year as a volunteer high school football coach and mentor for Montgomery County students. He recently returned to his alma mater, Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, as special teams coach. The Daily Record, one of Maryland’s most popular publications among the legal community, recently wrote, “the guy in the tie has a gridiron soul.”
