Zoning text amendments

Lerch Early land use attorneys regularly assist clients in the legislative process by drafting, obtaining legislative sponsorship, and lobbying for enactment of amendments to laws affecting the development process. Often, these efforts are directed at amending the zoning ordinance.

Based on our interpretations of existing law and consultations with public officials and their staff, we identify cost-effective legislative solutions to development obstacles. We then work with public agency staff to draft proposed amendments for consideration by legislators. Because proposed code amendments often need sponsorship by elected officials to be introduced, we assist in identifying and persuading legislators to be sponsors. Once the proposed amendment is officially introduced, we prepare testimony, testify at public hearings, and lobby staff and legislators for its enactment.
