Chevy Chase Bank Headquarters/Round House Theater (Bethesda, MD.): represented owner/developer in project, site plan and subdivision approvals for 600,000 square foot mixed use office, retail and theater project.

Crescent Towers (Bethesda, MD.): represented Landow Company in development of urban apartment complex subsequently converted to condominium use.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital (Rockville, MD.): represented Adventist HealthCare, Inc. since 1976 in competitive site bidding, master plan, rezoning, subdivision and site plan approvals for new acute care hospital and subsequent additions, along with other related health care facilities (rehabilitation hospital; nursing home; psychiatric hospital; medical office buildings; system offices).

Human Genome Sciences Headquarters (Rockville, MD.): represented owner in site plan and subdivision approvals of 1,030,000 square foot biotechnology headquarters complex.

Target at Montrose Crossing (North Bethesda, MD.): represented national retailer in development plan, site plan and building permit approvals for 100,000 new retail store.

Rock Spring Park (North Bethesda, MD.): represented Camalier/Davis families in project plan and subdivision approvals for 54 acre mixed use development of 1200 apartments, 1,000,000 square feet of office, and 150,000 square feet of commercial uses; also represented IBM, Park Tower Realty and Hines Interests in redevelopment of 40 acres of office park with 1,300,000 square feet of office density.

White Flint Crossing (North Bethesda, MD.): represented developer, JBG Company, in rezoning and redevelopment of commercial site for 435 apartments and approximately 235,000 gross square feet of retail uses.

Grosvenor Village (North Bethesda, MD.): represented Potomac Investment Properties in joint development of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority site at Grosvenor METRO station for 860 apartments.

(Silver Spring, MD.): represent joint venture of Eakin Youngentob Associates and the Alexander Company in the bidding process, rezoning, subdivision and site plan approvals for adaptive reuse/historic preservation development of 280 new dwelling units on the National Park Seminary site.

Our Land Use and Zoning group assists owners and developers in obtaining the governmental approvals required to develop real property for residential, commercial, industrial and retail uses. The members of our Land Use and Zoning Group assist our clients to obtain the highest and best use for the project site that is consistent with the client’s objectives.
Commercial and Residential Land Use
The attorneys in our group help our clients prepare, file, and pursue applications for master plan approvals, rezonings, optional method approvals, special exceptions, and variances. This process customarily involves obtaining and coordinating the work of other professionals on behalf of the owner or developer, including architects, civil engineers, surveyors, landscape architects, and traffic engineers. Once zoning issues are resolved, our services include assistance in obtaining various subdivision and related construction approvals, including building permits, storm water management waivers, site plan approvals, and certificates of occupancy. We also represent individuals and families with regard to the purchase and/or sale of their properties. Our clients include regional and national developers, institutional owners (banks, hospitals, schools, automobile dealerships, churches and synagogues, companies, etc.) Families, individuals and investors.

Our group offers extensive experience representing school systems, and local and municipal governments, on land use, zoning, environmental and redevelopment issues from regulatory and planning perspectives. We assist our clients in the drafting of land development ordinances and regulations. Our attorneys also regularly represent municipalities in a wide spectrum of governance matters.
