(September 19, 2011 - Bethesda, MD) Bethesda-based law firm Lerch, Early & Brewer has expanded its land use and real estate practices by adding eight attorneys who previously practiced in Holland & Knight’s Bethesda office. The attorneys at both firms have collaborated on a variety of projects for many years. “We recognized an opportunity to merge their land use and real estate talent with our practices in those areas,” says Arthur F. Lafionatis, Lerch Early’s Board Chair. “We already have one of Maryland’s leading land use practices and this strengthens and complements our regional real estate practice. We’ve shared clients and projects, and we will be stronger working together than competing against one another.” He adds, “We’re confident in the long term strength of our area, and see this as a chance to invest in our continuing growth as a regional practice.”
The Holland & Knight land use and real estate attorneys made the move from a well-known large national firm to a locally-based regional firm in order to take advantage of Lerch, Early & Brewer’s consensus-driven approach to development cases and prominent position in the region “We’ve always had a great relationship with our counterparts at Lerch Early,” says Robert Harris, a Washington Business Journal Top Washington Lawyer finalist. William “Bill” Kominers, who has been a land use lawyer in the Washington area for more than 30 years adds, “We’ve seen that Lerch Early’s attorneys focus on building constructive relationships as we do, and on making the development process a winning proposition for all stakeholders: clients, the planning staff and board, government officials and the community. We also will benefit from immediate interactions with attorneys from different practice areas who are under one roof.”

- Robert R. Harris, Principal
- William Kominers, Principal
- Patricia A. Harris, Principal
