Mr. VanGrack is the founder and co-chair of the firm's community associations practice. He was born in Washington, D.C.
in 1953 and has resided in Montgomery County since 1956. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Maryland in 1975 and a J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore in 1978. He served as a law clerk to Judge Richard B. Latham, Sixth Judicial Circuit of Maryland from 1978-1979.
Mr. VanGrack has been representing community associations for over 25 years and has done extensive litigation and appellate work in the field. He was appointed by the Montgomery County Council in 1988 to study community associations, served on the Montgomery County Task Force on Community Associations, and chaired its Dispute Resolution Committee. He is a Past President of the Washington Metropolitan Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) and has been active in CAI on both a local and national level. He has previously served as Chairman of the CAI Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and was awarded the National Chair of the Year in 1991, when he served as the Chair of the Educations and Services Council. Mr. VanGrack speaks regularly on community association issues and has lectured on numerous topics throughout the country. He also is a member of the prestigious College of Community Association Lawyers, having been installed in 1996, and serves as a member of its Board of Governors. He
was selected to Chair the National Law Seminar for 2007-2008, and is also a Chairman of the Admissions Committee.
He successfully completed the 40 hour mediation training program
through the Montgomery County Bar Foundation, and has been appointed
to serve as a mediator by the Circuit Court of Montgomery
County. Mr. VanGrack serves as a volunteer assistant coach for
the Northwest High School (Germantown) football team, and also as a
mentor for students at the school. His involvement with the
school includes the presentation of an annual scholarship award, the
coordination of a speaker series at the school, and the hosting of a
student in an internship position at the firm.
