Stuart A. Schwager is a principal in the firm’s Business and Taxation and Litigation groups. He represents businesses in a broad array of corporate law, franchise law, and litigation matters. He was born in 1967 in Cortland, New York, and received his A.B. degree,
cum laude, in Political Science, with a minor in Philosophy, from Colgate University in 1989. He received his J.D. degree from George Washington University in 1992 where he was an Articles Editor of The George Washington Journal of International Law and Economics, and a member of the school’s Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court team.
Mr. Schwager’s corporate practice is broad, and includes the representation of businesses in matters concerning enterprise formation, shareholder agreements, negotiations, securities law issues, and general corporate issues. He also has experience in matters regarding mergers and acquisitions, including asset and stock purchases and sales, corporate reorganizations and recapitalizations. In addition, Mr. Schwager represents his corporate clients in antitrust and competition law matters, including antitrust issues, price-fixing and unfair competition matters. His representation extends to advising and representing franchise owners in a variety of matters related to franchise law.
In the area of litigation, Mr. Schwager has brought and defended a variety of claims in state and federal courts, and before arbitrators and mediators, including breach of contract, enforcement of non-competition covenants, and shareholder disputes.
Mr. Schwager is admitted to practice in Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, New Jersey and New York.
