Mr. Reed has headed Lerch Early & Brewer's Litigation Group for seven years and has been a member of that Group for more than 22 years, during
19 of which he has been a shareholder of the firm. His diverse practice includes the representation of individuals and corporations in complex civil and employment litigation, white collar criminal defense work and the representation of lawyers and health care providers in professional responsibility matters. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1951. Mr. Reed attended Brandeis University, where he received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, in 1974 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1977.
Prior to joining the firm in 1984, Mr. Reed had extensive trial and appellate experience, having worked in the Public Defenders' offices in Vermont, Michigan, and the District of Columbia and as an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland. He also served as law clerk to the Honorable Harold H. Greene, United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. Reed has spoken on a variety of federal criminal law topics as well as legal ethics and professional responsibility issues at professional seminars and conferences, and formerly served as Chairman of the Federal Practice Section of the Montgomery County Bar Association. He is currently a member of the Board of Governors of the Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He also previously served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America. Mr. Reed is a member of the Maryland, District of Columbia and Michigan bars.
Mr. Reed has also worked extensively with the firm’s Employment and Labor Group on a wide range of issues and contested matters in court and before administrative agencies.
