Mr. Paxton practices in the firm's Family Law Group. He was born in New York City on December 2, 1940. He received a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1964 and a J.D. degree from American University in 1967. His practice concentrates in matrimonial property, support and custody litigation, divorce counseling, and the negotiation and preparation of property settlement and prenuptial agreements. Mr. Paxton has been Chairman of the firm's litigation department. He is active in civic activities and has served as a member of various state and county bar association committees, including the State Laws Committee, the Judicial Selections Committee, and the Ethics Committee. For 1993-95 he was the Chairperson of the Montgomery County Ethics Committee. He is an active member of the Family Law Section of various bar associations. He has been the Chairperson of the Montgomery County Bar Association Family Law Section. He served on the Family Law Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association from 1989-1993.
He has edited a Family Law newsletter for the State Bar Association and the Family Law Section newsletter of the Montgomery County Bar Association. He has taught various continuing legal education classes and conducted seminars for lawyers on matrimonial topics, including the preparation of prenuptial agreements, the tax ramifications of transferring real estate in divorce, the discovery and valuation of assets in divorce, and the preparation of a custody case. Mr. Paxton recently served on the Governor's Task Force on Family Law, Subcommittee on the economic aspects of inequities and disparities of divorce. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Attorneys and has been certified by the Academy as a matrimonial arbitrator. Mr. Paxton is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia bars.
