Lerch Early is pleased to welcome attorney Shirley Steinbach as of counsel in the Community Associations practice.
Shirley represents homeowners associations, condominiums, and co-operatives throughout metropolitan Washington, DC. She works with boards of directors and management companies on document creation, review, interpretation, and amendment, as well as dispute resolution. Shirley also represents construction contractors seeking to perfect and enforce mechanics liens, and handles a variety of civil litigation matters.
"Shirley brings a strong knowledge of litigation and practical experience to the group," says Ruth O. Katz, co-chair of Lerch Early's Community Associations practice, adding that Shirley's demeanor and temperament were exactly what the group had been looking for in a new member.
"Shirley isn't afraid to advocate for her clients," Ruth says. "She has a great personality that clients really respond to."
One of Shirley's clients says these traits make her stand out.
"What most impresses me about Shirley is her professional demeanor and temperament," the client says. "Lawyers who are all 'fire and brimstone I-was-born-a-pitbull-and-will-fight-for-you (for an appropriate fee!)' are, in my experience, a dime-a-dozen (especially in DC), and often do more harm than good (polarizing/entrenching opposing sides, etc). Shirley takes the opposite approach. She's extremely level-headed and calm, even in highly contentious situations."
Shirley received two Bachelor of Arts degrees magna cum laude from the University of Maryland, and received her Juris Doctor with honors from The George Washington University Law School. Prior to joining Lerch Early, Shirley worked for firms in DC and owned her own law firm. She is admitted to practice in Maryland, DC, and Virginia.
Shirley has volunteered with Homeward Trails Animal Rescue since 2009. She also enjoys practicing yoga, cooking meals for family and friends from her growing cookbook collection, and hiking in Rock Creek Park with her beautiful dog, Foster.
